Light Night 2014!

It's my favorite time of year--the run-down to Christmas! Light Night is the first of the big fall events in Leeds, always in early October. Next month we have Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day and the Christmas Light Switch-On, followed by the Christkindlmarkt, my absolute favorite thing!
Remembrance Day is going to be huge for the next four years, with the Centenary

One of the Light Night art installations took photos of people, split them into three and mixed them up

In the Town Hall's Bridewell Corridor, there was an amazing display of these hand-cut paper panels

The Civic Hall had a brilliant light display, set to music

I just noticed the American flag...it's on one of the food stalls. In the past couple of years, there's been a trend over here of "American"-style street food, like burgers and hot dogs.

Inside St. John's Church, there was a band called the Leeds Waits playing traditional folk music from the 16th-18th centuries (the church was built 1632-1634)

It was great to see the inside of the beautiful church, too--last year it wasn't so brightly lit up!

This historic tram was used as part of an art installation, with images of passengers from the 20's and 30's projected on the windows. The tram was actually from Manchester, but it was cool to see a tram in the middle of Briggate, where they used to run (pre-1959)
(Briggate is all pedestrianized now)

In Holy Trinity Church, we saw this lovely memorial--an itemized list of the departed's donations! We got a kick out of the spelling of Headingley as "Hedingley" and I love the last line--"Go and do Thou likewise"

Christmas is on its way! It's now finally socially acceptable for me to shop for presents, load Christmas music on my ipod and watch Christmas movies!
